“Maple Tree” celebrates a south-west Cortes Island garden, its gardeners and its maple tree, a prominent landmark clearly visible from surrounding waters.
The painting uses the physical form of the torus to give us a simultaneously inward and outward perspective. Look carefully and you’ll see the exterior landscape mirrored on the interior. “As within so without; as without so within”.
