“Blossom Bay II” is one of two portraits of a remote tidal bay on south Cortes Island that was my home for five years. Being so isolated, it’s also home to nesting eagles, owls, cougars, wolves and deer. Every year a flock of Canada geese shows up to raise their young there and regular waves of migrating dolphins, fish and birds come and go again.
When it was first settled by Europeans in the 1800s, the Blossom Bay homestead was planted with orchards of apple, pear, plum, cherry and hazelnut trees. This Circle is about this beautiful, womblike place and the cycles of blossoms and seasons, tides and life that I was so privileged to experience for the time that I was there.
